Dear Friend of Rivendell School,
Thank you for taking time to connect with our Christ-centered, K-8th grade educational sanctuary on the edge of Metropolitan Washington, D.C. Rivendell opened its doors in 1989 with 29 students and now, “in our mid-20’s,” nearly 150 students attend. We love this number because it allows us to personally know the names and the stories of the children, and we consider this relational foundation to our learning an incredible luxury and one of our greatest assets. Ours is a school, steeped in joy-filled learning, and committed to nurturing the whole child: heart, soul, mind, physical body, and in rich and healthy relationships.
As a community of learners, the parents, teachers and students alike are engaged each day in the process of developing the mind, the heart, and the skills we need to confidently navigate our world. We pursue excellence in all of our learning because we want to reflect the excellence of our Creator. This means that we seek to develop minds that are wise, keen, discerning, and attentively critiquing. We seek to develop hearts that are attuned to the needs of the world and the needs of those around us while simultaneously caring for the areas in ourselves that need to be stretched and grown. We also seek to sharpen the skills with which our students will communicate, design, calculate, apply, construct, compare—all in order to worship God and steward the gifts and talents He has given us.
Our primary commitment to Christ-centered learning, and our belief that each child is made in the image of and to be in relationship with the Creator God shape our approach to education. Rivendell School strives to prepare children to heroically enter the world beyond the limits of Rivendell's "wildlife refuge" to serve the Lord as redemptive ambassadors for His Kingdom. Our Motto and our Mission is “helping children explore God’s world and discover their place in it.”
I hope you will take time to read through the articles and excerpts on our website, and please contact us if there are further questions that come to mind. Should you and your child become part of the Rivendell community of learners, I look forward to getting to know each of you.
