At Rivendell we believe that training in the arts is essential to the development of a well-educated, well-rounded child. Fine arts and performing arts are woven throughout our integral thematic units every day through memorization presentations, acting out skits, drawing, sculpting, painting, nature study, creative writing and constructing.
Additionally, the Rivendell School curriculum and calendar provide time for formal opportunities for students to display their talents. Every other year our entire school participates in a “Shakespeare Festival” in which each class puts on a Shakespearian production. During alternate years classes may perform a dramatic production that coincides with a particular thematic unit of study. Music and visual arts classes are prioritized on a weekly or biweekly schedule based on the grade level of the students. A cadre of talented parents serves as art and music teachers and as production assistants.
